Happy Birthday, Joe!!!!!

One would never know that Division Chief Joe Griffith of the DTFD marked a milestone (60th birthday) this week by the heavy schedule he maintains and constant visibility in the township.

One of his favorite activities is the annual Vacation Bible School (VBS), currently being organized after school dismissal in June. He coordinates the popular program, jointed supported by area churches and held at the Stephen Decatur Elem. School on Foltz St.

His business card couldn’t begin to list his myriad responsibilities, which include: fire protection and advanced life support, code enforcement, fire investigation, arson, manpower, and public relations. That last category encompasses Decatur Central Lions Club 4-H Fair, St. Ann Church festival, Smokehouse education, Safe Halloween (which draws 10-12k attendees).

Also, annual golf outing, Relay for Life, Keep Indy Beautiful cleanup, Thanksgiving and Christmas family relief, station group tours, free smoke detector program, school field days, juvenile fire program, Hoosier Burn Camp at Camp Tecumseh, mentoring at Stephen Decatur Elem., and driver ed safety education.

Granted, he is assisted by lotsa firefighters, but his leadership and coordination skills are unique to the appreciation of all Decatur Twp. residents.

Chief Griffith also finds time for his family.
